Hey everyone! I am back with another review. I know on my blog you will find numerous reviews, but I enjoy doing them. I hope you all enjoy them. If not, I’ll try to do something a little different next post. Today, I will be reviewing the “miracle in a bottle”: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. I have heard and read so many reviews raving on this product, so I wanted to put it to the test for my stretched (read: “transitioning”), relaxed hair. Did this product hold up to its holy grail name? Let’s get right into the review to find out.

If you have been following my hair journey since the beginning, you will know my hair as well as I do. For those who don’t, let me give you a brief overview of my hair: I have 4b/4c relaxed hair that I currently stretch past 12 weeks post relaxer treatment. With my 4b/4c hair, I have a lot of shrinkage when my hair is wet, taking my brushing APL hair to neck length. Recently, I did a small trim to get my hair ready for a hair challenge, so the majority of my hair is at shoulder length, with my length in the back still brushing APL.

Normally when I do product reviews for any hair products, I try to use the product up and incorporate it into my regimen before I decide to type a review. I tried to do this process with the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle and I couldn’t; my hair couldn’t take it anymore. I only used the product twice and my hair was mad at me both times.

On the bottle, it states to keep the conditioner on your hair for three minutes, then rinse out. I did not do this for my hair because personally, three minutes isn’t deep conditioning to me. I need to deep condition AT LEAST 30 minutes to feel like I did anything. So, that’s what I did. I left this deep conditioner on, with heat included, for about an hour/an hour and a half. My hair had NO slip and tangled more than it usually did. It was a pain in the ass to get through my hair with this product still in it.

I then decided to read reviews from women with kinky hair like me, and I saw that they used it as a rinse out conditioner. I decided that on my next wash, that I would use this as a rinse out conditioner as well, just to seal my hair cuticle. Guess what happened during that wash? THE SAME THING! I had to use my Suave Naturals conditioner to detangle my hair; there was no way I was getting a comb through my hair with the Aussie conditioner alone.

Pros

  • It has good ingredients in it. I already use Aloe Vera Juice in my moisturizing hair mists, so I know of its softening properties. From my research, I have seen that many avid users of jojoba oil credit this oil to be one of the oils close to our skins natural sebum, so it is good for skin and hair.
  • The smell. Look, we all know I’m a sucker for scents. I love the scent of Aussie products. Delightfully sweet. The fiance doesn’t mind the smell of this too much; he likes the smell of this on my hair.
Cons
  • This dried my hair out. I shampooed with Elasta QP Soy Oyl shampoo both times I tried to use this conditioner on my hair. The shampoo alone made my hair feel softer than this conditioner did, even after I washed it out and tried to move on with my normal hair routine.
  • This clumped my hair together. I like for my conditioners to have a “slip,” making it easier for me to detangle my hair in the shower with either my fingers or wide tooth comb. My hair felt tangled and clumped together from my natural new growth, to my relaxed ends. I couldn’t use this more than twice before I had to give it up for testing purposes.
  • No benefits. True, I only used this twice. But with conditioner, you know if you like it or not based on how it makes your hair feel. My hair could not get used to this. I figured that I would use it on freshly relaxed hair, but it didn’t make my relaxed ends feel soft whatsoever.

I’m disappointed. As with all Aussie products, it smells incredible but it did not perform in the way I would like. I have used their Moist line before (their shampoo) and my hair responded well to it. I guess this was not meant to be for my hair type. Would I recommend this product? Personally no; not for anyone with kinky hair or my specific hair type. But I always encourage those interested to try it out for themselves. My experience may be similar to your own or dramatically different. I may try to use the bottle up, but I will make sure that mix in some marshmallow root for slip and vegetable glycerin & coconut oil to make my hair softer during the process. I hope that you found this review helpful in your decision making process. Thank you for reading and I will talk to you all again soon!
