At the beginning of the New Year, I made the decision that I wanted to take better care of my skin. Based on genetics, I have a “youthful-looking” (meaning I get mistaken for a child) face, that is clouded over by dry, patchy, barely hydrated skin. I have purchased many skin care products since making that declaration, and I am thankful to be able to test out a new product that aids in keeping my skin nice, supple, and glowing.
The Rhamnia Bynata Night Face Cream is everything I want in a night cream; thick, creamy, and filled with ingredients that I like to use on my face. This product also has sea buckthorn, a beauty super food. Scientifically, Sea Buckthorn is also known as Hippophae, the name deriving from hippo (horse) and phaos (shining). In Ancient Times, this plant’s leaves and branches were supposedly fed to horses as a remedy to weight gain and gaining a shiny coat. Today, in modern times, this plant has been touted to be rich in vitamins A and C, moisturize skin, ease irritation, treat acne, and heal aging-related damage.
Whenever I do skin care reviews, I like to share the ingredients list with you guys. That way, you can look up the ingredients you’re not sure about (something we all should be doing). The ingredients are as follows:
Aqua (Water), Annuus Seed Oil (sunflower seed oil), Gyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Butter, Decyl Oleate, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, PEG-100 Stearate, Lanolin, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Pulp Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) Acetate, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxyde, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Phytate. Tocopherol, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzonate, Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Oil.
Pros
- This product has many of the ingredients in it that I use separately: Sunflower Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter, and Apricot Kernel Oil. I love that this product contains my loved oils because it keeps me from having to constantly do an oil mixture on my face.
- The product is thick. I love thicker face creams for my dry skin. This product has consistently left my skin softer when I wake up in the morning, and has kept my dryness down. I notice when I do not use this product daily that my skin begins to feel parched all over again.
- This night cream blends into the skin easily. It is very easy to rub this product into your skin in a short amount of time, despite the thickness of it.
- It soothes my skin after derma rolling. I am also in the middle of derma rolling my skin for review purposes (spoiler alert: I like it so far). Derma rolling leaves my skin, especially my cheeks, feeling very irritated and red. I apply this night cream after my Vitamin C serum. While the Vitamin C serum does not soothe my skin instantly, this night cream does it instantly for me. It seems to cool my skin, something that I love.
- The scent is pleasant. It has a citrus scent (due to the orange oil) and that makes me feel happy. Natural, non offending scents in my skin care makes the experience better for me.
- Marketing. Now, I appreciate the fact that this product has Sea Buckthorn in it because I have always wanted to try this super-fruit out. But as a consumer, what I do not appreciate is that it is heavily advertised on the product. It makes me uncomfortable that Sea Buckthorn is the star ingredient on the packaging, but it is the 13th ingredient in the product. The higher the ingredient on the ingredients list, the more of the product is in it. The first five ingredients of this product includes some of my favorites; but these were not the ingredients heavily advertised. This was my main gripe. If it is listed as the star, it should have been at the beginning of the list.
- The price. Although I received this product to review, I have been thinking about repurchasing it. At $37.85 (price at time of initially receiving the product. It is now $32) for a 50mL jar that should last you six months, I am still hesitant to purchase it. If you are on a budget like I am (broke college students, unite!), then purchasing a night cream that is almost $40 a jar is a little exorbitant. I’ve fallen in love with the product, but I have to do some soul searching first before I purchase it.
All in all, I enjoy this night cream. It is definitely better than the one I was using from CVS. I like that this product has ingredients that I love, with a scent that makes me happy. This product has become a staple for my dry skin. Though I have an issue with the marketing and the price, I do see myself purchasing this product (and the day cream) in the future. My skin suffers the most in the cooler months, so I will definitely need this to help keep my skin soft and glowing during the cooler months. I recommend this product for those with dry skin, those who aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients listed, and those who are looking for a new night cream to try out.
